The Orchester Jakobsplatz München was founded by young memebers of the Jewish community of Munich and Upper Bavaria. The founding was inspired by the construction of the Munich Jakobspatz Jewish Center. As a meeting place for young Jewish and non-Jewish professional musicians the orchestra has the goal to encourage dialogue and use the universal language of music to play a role in the culture of living together.

The orchestra gave its debut in 2005 with two opera productions in cooperation with the Bavarian State Theatre.
Philip Glass's opera "The Fall of the Hosue of Usher" was followed by Vivlad's scenic oratorio "Juditha Triumphans."
The orchestra also performed "Juditha Triumphans" to open the Sixth Jewish Summer Festival in Budapest in August 2006.
In September 2006 memebrs of the orchestra performed with Anne-Sophie Mutter in a widely noted benefit concert for the Jewish Center; the concert was held in the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residence.

Since the beginning of 2007 the orchestra has played a regular program of concerts. One artistic goal is to perform rarely played works by Jewish composers. Another is to commission works related to Jewish life. The orchestra has performed the world premieres of Ivan Fischers "Deutsch-Jiddische Kantate" and Gilead Mishory's"Di wajte hajmat majne."
